"It's difficult to describe what it is like to serve time on death row knowing you are innocent. All you know is that what seems like an awful nightmare is now reality, a reality beyond comprehension." - Ray Krone, released from prison, April 8, 2002

William Nieves, a Philadelphia native, spent six years of his life on Pennsylvania's death row. Since his release in October 2000, he has traveled across the country and around the world, sharing the story of his ordeal and calling for the abolition of the death penalty. He is currently on the board of directors of Pennsylvania Abolitionists United Against the Death Penalty.
Ray Krone grew up in York, Pa., with a loving family and many friends. Later, he became an Air Force sergeant, and then a mailman before finding himself on Arizona's death row for a murder he did not commit. In April 2002, after spending 10 years in prison, he became the nation's 100th death row prisoner to be exonerated.
Thomas "Hank" Kimbell, Jr., maintained his innocence throughout his four years on death row. His murder conviction was overturned, and a new trial featuring previously unheard evidence substantiating his claims of innocence, led to his release in May 2002. He was reunited with his family and has returned to his hometown of New Castle, Pa.
