Is there anything more horrific than the execution of a human being for a
crime he or she didn't commit?
In a nation that considers itself the standard bearer of human rights, such
an outrageous "mistake" is shameful and unacceptable. But we also must
recognize the unconscionable human rights abuses that have been committed
against more than 100 wrongfully convicted men and women who have looked
death in the face and lived to tell about it.
Three of these courageous individuals, each of whom calls Pennsylvania home,
will bring their dramatic stories to every region of the state this fall,
providing a unique and powerful witness against the death penalty. From
October 9-23, William Nieves, Ray Krone and Hank Kimbell will carry a
compelling message to the people of Pennsylvania on an unprecedented
statewide tour, "From Death Row to Freedom: Voices of Innocence."
On each of the nine stops of the tour, William, Ray and Hank will bring a
human face to the death penalty in an effort to change the hearts and minds
of Pennsylvanians and to influence politicians to call for a moratorium on
executions. They will meet with local activists, conduct press interviews,
speak to high school and college students, and address the larger community.
A major demonstration will be held at the State Capitol in Harrisburg on
October 23.
From Philadelphia to Erie, from Pittsburgh to Scranton, William, Ray and Hank
will share their moving testimony as they recount in vivid detail the years
they sat in prison waiting to be killed by their government. They will
illuminate the unfairness and immorality of the death penalty in a way that
only an innocent person sentenced to death can do. Having spent a combined
total of more than 22 years in prison for crimes they didn't commit, they
will present perhaps the most convincing evidence we have that the death
penalty system is broken beyond repair and must be brought to an immediate
halt.
We invite you to join us for what will be one of the most exciting and
important anti-death penalty events ever organized in Pennsylvania.
